A covered market stall space: a volunteer-led effort in New York
Volunteers in New York are raising $3,400 for a covered market stall space at the old Baobab bus depot.

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a covered market stall space. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Baobab bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $810, and the remaining cost is $3,400.
It will serve about 288 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in March and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.

• Permits and inspections: $260
