A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in Duque de Caxias

We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community garden - we need $1,000 for materials.

Duque de Caxias
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Acacia Primary School, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $1,000. It will serve about 186 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $1,000 goes: • Tools hire and delivery: $75 • Materials: $760 • Safety equipment and signage: $165 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.
