A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Bandung
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community fridge - we need $300 for materials.
Anywhere in the world847 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $300.
It will serve about 229 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $300 goes:
• Materials: $185
• Permits and inspections: $45
• Safety equipment and signage: $45
• Tools hire and delivery: $25
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

hope it all works out. More neighborhoods should do this. Thinking of Bandung.
thanks for sharing this. Shared it with a few friends. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. God bless.
Keep going. Hope this works out for you. Sent it to 19 people at work. All the best.
Best of luck, Siti. Looking forward to the next update. After 29 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything. All the best
