James Athumani

Youth chess coach and mentor

  • 🇹🇿 Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
  • Dar es Salaam Athletic Club
  • Since 1980
  • English, Swahili
I've coached chess at Dar es Salaam Athletic Club since 1980. Most of my players were between 8 and 13, and a lot of them turned into friends for life. My best seasons were the ones we lost most games and still showed up every Tuesday. It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.

More about James

Some of my former players now coach their own teams, which is the best thank-you I could ask for.

What gifts mean to James: A gift would go toward kit and bus fares for kids who can't afford them.
