Weekly meals for families and seniors in Kathmandu

The Neighbors' Pantry pantry in Kathmandu is running low just as demand rises; $550 will stock it for 11 weeks.

Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Neighbors' Pantry every Monday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 27 families, and now we feed 141 each week. Donations have dropped by about 41% this summer, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 14 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Kathmandu market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $550 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $310 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $105 • Baby formula and diapers: $85 • Refrigeration and electricity: $50 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
