Sushila was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in May. The surgeon at Kathmandu Regional Medical Center recommended valve repair surgery, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $870, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $650 short.
my mother has been in and out of Kathmandu Regional Medical Center since May. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $870 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Sushila struggles with daily life and can't drive. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Sushila won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
