After a large ovarian cyst, Renata was cleared for valve repair surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Renata was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst in August. The surgeon at Ciudad de México Community Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,000, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $1,400 short. my daughter has been in and out of Ciudad de México Community Hospital since August. The doctors say a large ovarian cyst will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,000 is more than we can find. While we wait, Renata struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Renata won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $1,400 goes: • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $210 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $450 • Travel and lodging for the family: $95 • Post-operative medication: $135 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $510 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

  • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Renata!

    • Armando GómezOwnerAnswer

Sure. The biggest one is pre-operative tests and imaging, $210. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Fair thing to want to know.

Hope things get better soon. Gave what I could, wish it was more. We're a small family in Pittsburgh but we're thinking of you. Thinking of Ciudad de México.

    • Take care, Armando. Hope the doctors have good news. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Love from Negombo.
