A skate park: a volunteer-led effort in Venice

Volunteers in Venice are raising $2,200 for a skate park at the Jacaranda community hall.

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a skate park. This year a group of 18 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda community hall, but no funding. We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $2,200. It will serve about 283 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $2,200 goes: • Materials: $1,350 • Permits and inspections: $220 • Safety equipment and signage: $220 • Tools hire and delivery: $410 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
