Two weekends of roof repair for Jonathan, a school janitor in San Diego

The roof at Jonathan's home is failing; materials are donated and we need hands.

I'm a school janitor living in San Diego. During the last storm water started coming through the ceiling in 4 places, and the kids' bedroom is no longer usable. A roofer quoted $4,300, which isn't something I can pay. The good news: a local hardware store has donated the shingles and underlay. What I don't have is people to do the work. I'm looking for anyone handy who can help over one long weekend. Experience helps, but it isn't essential - I'll have a licensed roofer supervising for safety. All you need is to be comfortable with heights or willing to help from the ground. I'll provide lunch, water and lots of thanks. The work will be done on the ground and roof with proper harnesses. If you can only help for a few hours, that's welcome too. Thank you for reading my story.

  • A secure home matters so much. Hope you're settled soon. I hope October is when things finally get easier.

    • Sending good thoughts. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out

      • Stay strong, Jonathan. Hope you get there. All the best
