The Shevchenko family fled the Democratic Republic of Congo - help them rebuild in Addis Ababa

After fleeing the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Shevchenko family has arrived in Addis Ababa with little more than their documents. They need help with a deposit, furniture and the first months.

Addis Ababa
My family left the Democratic Republic of Congo 9 months ago after the conflict closed our school and clinic. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Addis Ababa. We're a family of eight and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 2 months of rent, and that support ends in February. I was a pharmacist in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. All purchases will be documented and photos shared (with the family's consent). Where the $250 goes: • Language classes and bus passes: $80 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $35 • Beds, table and basic furniture: $135 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it. - Robel

  • You're not alone, Robel. This could happen to any of us. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. God bless.
