Restoring the Liberty canal: a volunteer-led project in Olinda
Help us clean and replant the Liberty canal before the August planting window closes.
🇧🇷 Olinda, Pernambuco, Brazil922 views
The Liberty canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This April, 91 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 107 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $700 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $90
• Native saplings and stakes: $520
• Tools and protective gear: $90
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

I hope things turn around soon. Thinking of Olinda.
how is Fernanda doing now?
Wishing you the best, Fernanda. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Wish I lived closer to Tiruchirappalli so I could bring a meal. Greetings from Antalya.
Wishing you peace. More neighborhoods should do this. After 13 years in customer support I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Kathmandu
