The Shevchenko family fled Somalia - help them rebuild in Akron
Help a family of 4 start their new life in Akron: furniture, rent deposit and language classes.
🇺🇸 Akron, Ohio, United States2,044 views
My family left Somalia 12 months ago after we were targeted for our work. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Akron. We're a family of six and we're safe, but we arrived with very little.
Our resettlement agency has provided 3 months of rent, and that support ends in October.
I was a pharmacist in Somalia, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well.
We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months.
All purchases will be documented and photos shared (with the family's consent).
Where the $1,550 goes:
• Phone and internet for school and job search: $300
• Language classes and bus passes: $370
• Beds, table and basic furniture: $880
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.
