The Bakr family fled Somalia - help them rebuild in Dallas
Help a family of 8 start their new life in Dallas: furniture, rent deposit and language classes.
🇺🇸 Dallas, Texas, United States1,011 views
My family left Somalia 7 months ago after the conflict closed our school and clinic. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Dallas. We're a family of six and we're safe, but we arrived with very little.
Our resettlement agency has provided 2 months of rent, and that support ends in March.
I was an engineer in Somalia, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well.
We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months.
Funds are managed by the Dallas Refugee Support Network, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf.
Where the $2,950 goes:
• Phone and internet for school and job search: $135
• Winter clothing and school supplies: $610
• Rent deposit and first month: $1,450
• Language classes and bus passes: $755
Thank you for reading my story.

Sending strength. This could happen to any of us. I have a 17 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Take care.
Thanks for sharing this. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. God bless.
Take care. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Wish I lived closer to Dayton so I could bring a meal. Love from Mombasa.
good luck, Adriana. Looking forward to the next update. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Love from Townsville.
hang in there, Adriana. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier.
everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Greetings from Kozhikode.
Sending strength, Adriana. Hope you get there. After 24 years in teaching I know how hard it's to ask for anything. God bless
