For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 8 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $400. It will serve about 512 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $400 goes: • Materials: $240 • Permits and inspections: $40 • Safety equipment and signage: $65 • Tools hire and delivery: $55 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Ama

  • Rooting for you, Ama. I hope things turn around soon. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Love from Seoul

    • Take care, Ama. More neighborhoods should do this. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. All the best

        • This could happen to any of us. My neighbor in Brooklyn donated after I showed her your page. God bless.
