Teresa was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in August. The surgeon at Granada Orthopedic Institute recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,850, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $2,000 short. my daughter has been in and out of Granada Orthopedic Institute since August. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,850 is more than we can find. While we wait, Teresa struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Teresa won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $2,000 goes: • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $260 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $1,300 • Post-operative medication: $115 • Physiotherapy sessions: $325 If you're reading this, thank you. - Ximena

        • Best of luck, Ximena. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My neighbor in Kadıköy donated after I showed her your page.

          • Hang in there, Ximena. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.

            • sending good thoughts, Ximena. Hope the doctors have good news. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
