Storm in Marseille: help the Northside district rebuild

Neighbors in the Northside district are rebuilding after the storm; every contribution goes to materials and supplies.

The storm hit the Northside district on 19 September. My home was one of 76 damaged, and 11 families are still in temporary shelter at the sports club. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates. Where the $5,600 goes: • Roofing sheets and timber: $3,150 • Tools and labor for repairs: $1,400 • Food parcels for displaced families: $1,050 I hope life is good to you. - Benoît

Updates from Benoît

  1. Thank you all. We're at 60% now ($3,387). I'm honestly stunned. I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts.

    How is Benoît doing now?

    • Onyango Ochieng Rashidi

Sending strength, Benoît. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Thinking of Marseille.

      • Itzel M. Lozano

This could happen to any of us. We're a small family in Brampton but we're thinking of you. All the best.

        • Rahma Iman Darwish

Keep going, Benoît. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. After 14 years in farming I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Greetings from Gwagwalada.

          • Rahul E. Bansal

Keep going, Benoît. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Thinking of Marseille

            • Charles C. FrazierQuestion

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Benoît.

              • Benoît FrançoisOwnerAnswer

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. roofing sheets and timber comes first ($3,150) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Let me know if you want more detail.

            • Malathi N. Krishnamurthy

Hang in there, Benoît. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I went through something like this 11 years ago and strangers helped me out. Take care.
