Stop the eviction: 5 months of rent for Sami's family in Casablanca
After the closure of the factory, Sami is 5 months behind on rent and has a termination letter from the landlord.
🇲🇦 20012, Casablanca, Casablanca-Settat, Morocco1,205 views
When my hours were cut in half in August, I fell 5 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a termination letter was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $850.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by October, we must leave.
I have two young children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working night deliveries, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $850 goes:
• Rent arrears (5 months): $630
• Late fees and court costs: $55
• First month of rent as a buffer: $165

I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better. Don't give up. Love from Savar
Wishing you peace, Sami. This could happen to any of us. Take care.
