After a car accident that kept me from work for 12 weeks, I fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $400. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by January, we must leave. I've 1 children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working weekend shifts, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $400 goes: • First month of rent as a buffer: $90 • Rent arrears (4 months): $270 • Utilities in arrears: $40 Thanks for reading all this.

        • I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. Greetings from San Jose.

          • Hope it all works out, Njeri. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Thinking of Dar es Salaam
