Embakasi
Odhiambo was diagnosed with colon cancer in July. The oncology team at the Embakasi Oncology Institute has planned 6 rounds of treatment, starting in October. He will be away from work for about 10 weeks. Odhiambo is 51, worked as a construction supervisor until July, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Embakasi Oncology Institute 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes. Where the $1,350 goes: • Transport to the Embakasi Oncology Institute: $150 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $730 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $135 • Household costs while unable to work: $335 Glad we found this place.

  • You're not alone, Kariuki. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry

    • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Odhiambo!

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. transport to the Embakasi Oncology Institute comes first ($150) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Happy to explain more.

    • Praying for you, Kariuki. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. My neighbor in Mumbai donated after I showed her your page. Blessings.

      • Hope the doctors have good news. I have a 12 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Blessings.

        • Good luck, Kariuki. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day.

          • Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. After 7 years in hospitality I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Thinking of Embakasi.
