In January I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. My oncology team at Liverpool Cancer Centre has planned 12 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in March. I was told to expect about 5 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 24, I worked as a bus conductor until January, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Liverpool Cancer Centre 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $8,450 goes: • Transport to Liverpool Cancer Centre: $570 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $6,500 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $290 • Scans and lab work: $1,090 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
