Emily is facing early-stage lung cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

In April I was diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer. My oncology team at Sandton University Hospital has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in July. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 45, I worked as a tailor until April, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Sandton University Hospital 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,500 goes: • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $160 • Transport to Sandton University Hospital: $115 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,000 • Household costs while unable to work: $225 With deep gratitude, Emily
