Restoring the Pioneer canal: a volunteer-led project in San Francisco
Help us clean and replant the Pioneer canal before the July planting window closes.
🇺🇸 California, United States942 views
The Pioneer canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This March, 80 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 143 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,500 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $790
• Tools and protective gear: $230
• Waste removal and skip hire: $280
• Signage and educational materials: $200
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Take care, Raymond. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I hope July is when things finally get easier. Love from Jacksonville
Hope things get better soon. This could happen to any of us. I hope July is when things finally get easier.
sending love. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My neighbor had a similar thing happen so this one hit home
shared this with my family. After 30 years in farming I know how hard it's to ask for anything
Good luck, Raymond. Great idea, hope you get there. Thinking of San Francisco
