Restoring the Jacaranda canal: a volunteer-led project in Sherbrooke
Help us clean and replant the Jacaranda canal before the May planting window closes.
🇨🇦 Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada887 views
The Jacaranda canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This February, 105 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 84 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,900 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $150
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,350
• Tools and protective gear: $400
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Stay strong. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Thinking of Sherbrooke.
So sorry you're going through this, Eliana. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Greetings from Kraków
Great idea, hope you get there. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. God bless.
Sending love. More neighborhoods should do this. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. God bless
