Restoring Pioneer Creek: a volunteer-led project in Dar es Salaam
Help us clean and replant Pioneer Creek before the June planting window closes.
🇹🇿 Tanzania874 views
Pioneer Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This February, 90 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 139 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $150 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $25
• Waste removal and skip hire: $35
• Tools and protective gear: $90
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Thinking of Dar es Salaam.
It takes guts to ask. Well done. Love from Bahir Dar.
Take care. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I went through something like this 8 years ago and strangers helped me out
Rooting for you, Winnie. Gave what I could, wish it was more.
Rooting for you, Winnie. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. God bless.
