Plant 3,900 native trees around the Union wetland in Santarém
Volunteers are restoring the Union wetland in Santarém; $950 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇧🇷 Santarém, Pará, Brazil412 views
The Union wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This February, 81 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 199 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $950 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $530
• Tools and protective gear: $165
• Waste removal and skip hire: $180
• Signage and educational materials: $75
Every share and every dollar helps.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Rafaela!
Native saplings and stakes is $530 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page.
more neighborhoods should do this. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Take care.
Best of luck, Rafaela. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day!
So sorry you're going through this. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I'm in construction myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Greetings from Iztapalapa.
