Plant 3,050 native trees around the Freedom riverbank in San Diego
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Freedom riverbank needs $900 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 United States1,767 views
The Freedom riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This April, 40 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 99 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $900 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $190
• Signage and educational materials: $220
• Waste removal and skip hire: $490
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Good luck. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I went through something like this 5 years ago and strangers helped me out. Blessings.
Sending love, Allison. Great idea, hope you get there. Take care.
Thinking of you, Allison. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Don't give up.
More neighborhoods should do this. Greetings from Caloocan
