Plant 1,600 native trees around the Freedom riverbank in Bloemfontein
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Freedom riverbank needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇿🇦 Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa766 views
The Freedom riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 100 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 69 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $350 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $60
• Tools and protective gear: $145
• Waste removal and skip hire: $145
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Stay strong, Marlene. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in
So sorry you're going through this, Marlene. Gave what I could, wish it was more. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Greetings from Quetta.
Hope it all works out, Marlene. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Please keep us posted. Thinking of Bloemfontein.
So sorry you're going through this, Marlene. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Greetings from Zanzibar City
