Plant 1,550 native trees around the Liberty riverbank in Rochester
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Liberty riverbank needs $2,600 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 Rochester, New York, United States1,044 views
The Liberty riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 98 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 122 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,600 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,200
• Tools and protective gear: $400
• Waste removal and skip hire: $860
• Signage and educational materials: $140
Thanks for being kind about this.

Stay strong, Carol. This could happen to any of us. I went through something like this 2 years ago and strangers helped me out. Greetings from Toronto.
Praying for you, Carol. More neighborhoods should do this. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. All the best
You're not alone. Shared this with my family. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. God bless!
