Embakasi
In August I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. My oncology team at Embakasi Regional Medical Center has planned 12 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in November. I was told to expect about 7 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 40, I worked as a taxi driver until August, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Embakasi Regional Medical Center 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,300 goes: • Household costs while unable to work: $250 • Scans and lab work: $175 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $670 • Transport to Embakasi Regional Medical Center: $205 If you're reading this, thank you. - Mussa
