Let's build a community garden together in Scranton
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community garden - we need $950 for materials.
🇺🇸 Scranton, Pennsylvania, United States279 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 13 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Maple community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $950.
It will serve about 260 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $950 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $330
• Safety equipment and signage: $280
• Tools hire and delivery: $340
Thank you so much.

You're not alone. More neighborhoods should do this. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Thinking of Scranton.
Wishing you the best, Gerardo. This could happen to any of us. All the best.
