Clean streams for Thika: restoring the Jacaranda riverbank
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Jacaranda riverbank needs $300 for saplings and equipment.
🇰🇪 Thika, Kiambu, Kenya973 views
The Jacaranda riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This March, 114 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 128 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $300 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $35
• Waste removal and skip hire: $115
• Native saplings and stakes: $150
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Thika
Thank you. If you're in Thika I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great.
Hang in there. Great idea, hope you get there. We're a small family in Buenos Aires but we're thinking of you. Thinking of Thika.
