The fire in the informal settlement hit the Sunrise district on 28 September. My home was one of 25 damaged, and 8 families are still in temporary shelter at the community hall.
The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming.
Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before.
We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy.
Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters.
Where the $850 goes:
• Clean water and purification supplies: $200
• Tools and labor for repairs: $350
• Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $300
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Shared this with my family. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Love from London
Rooting for you, Gareth. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier
Thinking of you and your family, Gareth. This could happen to any of us. Sent it to 29 people at work.
