Ying's final semester of a nursing degree in Houston
Ying is two terms away from finishing a nursing degree but is blocked from enrolling by an unpaid balance of $4,850.

I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a nursing degree at Houston University, and I'm two terms away from graduating. I have worked as a library assistant to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $4,850.
The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a distinction average, and my professor has written in support of my application for a payment plan.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility.
I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the Houston University bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $4,850 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $1,700
• Final term tuition: $2,800
• Exam and lab fees: $250
• Textbooks and materials: $100
