Siyabonga is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying an accounting degree at the Richards Bay Institute of Technology, and is one semester away from graduating. He has worked as a library assistant to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $650.
The registrar has said Siyabonga can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Siyabonga has a 3.9 average, and a department head has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Siyabonga would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
Siyabonga isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Siyabonga
Textbooks and materials is $75 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Good question.
