Nkechi was diagnosed with prostate cancer in April. The oncology team at Nnewi Cancer Centre has planned 4 rounds of treatment, starting in June. She will be away from work for about 10 weeks.
Nkechi is 51, worked as a nurse until April, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Nnewi Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $500 goes:
• Transport to Nnewi Cancer Centre: $105
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $95
• Scans and lab work: $80
• Household costs while unable to work: $220
