In August I was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma. My oncology team at Glasgow Regional Medical Center has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in October. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 48, I worked as a bus conductor until August, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Glasgow Regional Medical Center 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $6,750 goes:
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,700
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $4,000
• Transport to Glasgow Regional Medical Center: $1,050
