Jepkoech is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a degree in social work at Nairobi Polytechnic, and is one term away from graduating. She has worked as a delivery rider to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $800.
The registrar has said Jepkoech can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Jepkoech has a distinction average, and a faculty supervisor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Jepkoech would lose her place and scholarship eligibility.
Jepkoech isn't asking for a handout - She wants to finish what She started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $800 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $350
• Final term tuition: $410
• Textbooks and materials: $40
