Help Derek with an overdue gas bill before the rainy season

The gas account is 3 months behind. Derek received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on October unless $600 is paid. He had never been late before losing my job in July. Derek called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $155 first, which isn't available. The household includes two young children, and going through the rainy season without gas isn't safe. We would also lose the ability to run the medical equipment at home.
