Caroline was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in August. The surgeon at Saint Mary Hospital recommended septoplasty, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,150, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $900 short. my wife has been in and out of Saint Mary Hospital since August. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without septoplasty. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,150 is more than we can find. While we wait, Caroline struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Caroline won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $900 goes: • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $95 • Physiotherapy sessions: $75 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $400 • Hospital stay (2 nights): $330 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Kipchoge
