In May I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. My oncology team at the Varanasi Oncology Institute has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in September. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 29, I worked as a farmer until May, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the Varanasi Oncology Institute 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,950 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,300 • Scans and lab work: $270 • Transport to the Varanasi Oncology Institute: $150 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $75 • Household costs while unable to work: $155 Glad we found this place.
