In June I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. My oncology team at Santos Cancer Centre has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in September. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 56, I worked as a construction supervisor until June, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Santos Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $3,450 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $2,450 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $135 • Household costs while unable to work: $620 • Transport to Santos Cancer Centre: $245 Thanks for being kind about this.
