Fighting colon cancer: help Nomsa afford treatment in Sandton

Nomsa is facing colon cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Sandton
Nomsa was diagnosed with colon cancer in May. The oncology team at Sandton University Hospital has planned 6 rounds of treatment, starting in September. She will be away from work for about 7 weeks. Nomsa is 30, worked as a hairdresser until May, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Sandton University Hospital 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders. I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes. Where the $2,700 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,750 • Household costs while unable to work: $470 • Transport to Sandton University Hospital: $160 • Scans and lab work: $320 Glad we found this place.

What's already covered and what's the $2,700 for?

      • Ayanda J. AdamsOwnerAnswer

Sure. The biggest one is chemotherapy and medication not covered, $1,750. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Ask me anything else.

    • Keep going. Gave what I could, wish it was more. After 12 years in accounting I know how hard it is to ask for anything. All the best

      • Praying for you, Ayanda. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did.

        • How is Nomsa doing now?

          • Hope this works out for you. Sent it to 3 people at work.

            • is there anything that isn't money that would help Nomsa?

              • Ayanda J. AdamsOwnerAnswer

Sharing the link is the biggest thing. And if you know anything about chemotherapy and medication not covered, advice is welcome too. Happy to explain more.

            • Sending good thoughts, Ayanda. Hope this works out for you. I'm in construction myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you

              • Take care, Ayanda. Wishing Nomsa a smooth procedure and a full recovery. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. God bless.

                • wishing you peace. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. I'll check back for the next update. Take care.

                  • sending love, Ayanda. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We're a small family in Osaka but we're thinking of you.
