Feed 174 families each week at the Thursday Table in Jinja
Fatuma runs a volunteer pantry feeding 174 families; this fund restocks shelves for the school holidays.

Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Thursday Table every Monday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 27 families, and now we feed 174 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 35% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 10 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Jinja market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $350 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $165
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $70
• Baby formula and diapers: $50
• Refrigeration and electricity: $65

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Fatuma.
Sure. The biggest one is rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale), $165. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. I'll keep the page updated.
