Emergency hernia repair for Nazia: covering what insurance won't

After endometriosis requiring surgery, Nazia was cleared for emergency hernia repair, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In March I was diagnosed with endometriosis requiring surgery. My surgeon at Islamabad Regional Medical Center recommended emergency hernia repair, and I have been placed on the schedule for June. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,000, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $500 short. Doctors at Islamabad Regional Medical Center told me endometriosis requiring surgery will get worse without emergency hernia repair. I work as a retail assistant, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,000 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a retail assistant have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Recovery is expected to take about 5 weeks. I'll not be able to stand for more than ten minutes during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $500 goes: • Travel and lodging for the family: $45 • Post-operative medication: $45 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $360 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $50 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.
