Mele was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in April. The surgeon at Auckland Regional Medical Center recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for June. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $7,250, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $4,350 short.
my wife has been in and out of Auckland Regional Medical Center since April. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $7,250 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Mele struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Mele won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Mele.
Pre-operative tests and imaging is $440 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Good question.
