Melanie was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections in August. The surgeon at Manchester General Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $7,250, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $3,600 short. my mother has been in and out of Manchester General Hospital since August. The doctors say a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $7,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Melanie struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Melanie won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $3,600 goes: • Physiotherapy sessions: $300 • Post-operative medication: $220 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,650 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $260 • Travel and lodging for the family: $170 Thank you for reading my story. - James
