Getachew was diagnosed with a hip fracture that never healed properly in July. The surgeon at Addis Ababa Community Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and He is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $670, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $400 short.
my father has been in and out of Addis Ababa Community Hospital since July. The doctors say a hip fracture that never healed properly will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $670 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Getachew struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Getachew won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
