I'm caring for me, who's 89. After worsening Parkinson's disease Patrick can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Patrick desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 40 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Patrick worked all of his life as a seamstress, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for six months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $4,550 goes:
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $240
• Part-time carer (six months): $3,850
• Medication and prescriptions: $460
