A weekly visit for Kebede, 90, who lives alone in Addis Ababa

An hour a week, a chat, and a cup of tea - that's all Kebede is asking for.

I'm writing for my neighbor Kebede, who's 90. Kebede lives alone in Addis Ababa, and lost a son last year. The nearest family lives on the other side of the country. Kebede loves baking, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Saturday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

      • Looking forward to the next update. My neighbor in Kandy donated after I showed her your page. Thinking of Addis Ababa.
