Baobab Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This May, 92 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 78 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage. Where the $1,250 goes: • Waste removal and skip hire: $600 • Tools and protective gear: $500 • Signage and educational materials: $150 Thank you for reading my story.

Updates from Colleen

  1. 4% there. I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. Thank you.

  2. Update from Galway: the plan for tools and protective gear is now scheduled. We're at 3% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Colleen!

Sure. The biggest one is waste removal and skip hire, $600. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Ask me anything else.

  • Thinking of you. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We're a small family in Kadıköy but we're thinking of you.

    • Hope this works out for you. Put this on a community board in Kyiv this morning.

      • hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Love from Shubra.

        • Keep going, Colleen. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Take care.
